University of Virginia Health System

For the third consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report has ranked the University of Virginia Medical Center as the No. 1 hospital in Virginia. The publication’s 2018-2019 “Best Hospitals” guide also recognizes nine UVA specialties for adults among the best in the U.S.

Six specialties at the University of Virginia Children’s Hospital also earned a top-50 national ranking in the 2018-2019 “Best Children’s Hospitals” guide from U.S. News & World Report.

Our physicians and nurses are actively involved in research that gives patients access to treatments and medicine not widely available. Consequently, patients travel from around the world to seek treatment with us.

As an academic medical center, we are taking a fresh approach to what has been accomplished in healthcare in order to discover, research, teach and care for patients in entirely new ways. To ensure that the right care is delivered in the right place at the right time, we are no longer waiting to accomplish tomorrow that which we are capable of achieving today.

Our team members utilize emerging technology and lead experimental treatment protocols. In fact, our healthcare makes headlines routinely.

However, it's the attributes of every UVA team member that make our nationally recognized care anything but routine. Qualities such as persistence, ingenuity and initiative help to create an environment where respect and responsiveness are highly valued.

UVA Medical Center is one of seven entities that make up the nationally renowned UVA Health System, including the Novant Health UVA Health System, UVA Transitional Care Hospital, UVA Physicians Group, UVA School of Medicine, UVA School of Nursing and Claude Moore Health Sciences Library.

We’re located in picturesque Charlottesville, Virginia. This mid-sized city in the rolling foothills of the historic Blue Ridge Mountains offers many of the cultural, educational and professional advantages of a large metropolitan area.

Charming for its academic, recreational and leisure opportunities, including hiking, biking, canoeing, rappelling, golf and other athletics, as well as theater and music, Charlottesville is consistently acclaimed by publications as one of the most livable cities in the country. Shopping, dining and entertainment, as well as convenient proximity to the beach and Washington, DC, make Charlottesville an ideal place for families, singles and active adults.
